These photos were taken during our holiday to New Zealand over the Christmas period through to mid-January 2012. While we were there we went for a short walk around Lake Taupo; took a trip up to Tauranga to catch up with people; installed a FreeView antenna for my mother-in-law; caught a glimpse of the Rena before it completely sank; and celebrated my dad's 80th birthday.

Wendy and I headed north for the Queen's Birthday long weekend. We started by driving to Gosford on Thursday night, then continuing on to Buladelah, Port Macquarie, Scott's Head, Macksville, and Coffs Harbour. On the drive back we stopped in at Sawtell, Diamond Beach, Forster, Woy Woy, and Goulburn. These photos were taken at a few of the stops along the way.

These quick photos showed a day when fillers were removed from joints along the Michelago Tourist Railway. The fillers are removed during summer to allow the rails to expand in the warmer weather.

Some photos taken around Michelago and Cooma focussing on the railway line and stations around the area. The track at Michelago is currently disused, but leased by the ARHS (ACT). The track from Cooma north to Chakola is operated by the Cooma Monaro Railway. The tracks to the south of the station are disused.

Some structures visible in these shots are also documented at the New South Wales Railway site. In particular, the crossing south of Michelago can still be recognised.

Here are some photos I look on a train excursion from Canberra to Royalla on the Michelago tourist railway. Due to the warm weather forcast for that day, a total fire ban was in force in the ACT, meaning a diesel train had to be used instead of the usual steam train.
